A Message
from the Principal
Kids are number one at Coronado
Middle School in the Kansas City Kansas School District!
Coronado Middle School in Wyandotte County is located a
few miles west of Interstate 635. The Coronado Middle School
Vision is “To educate students to be lifelong learners.”
With a dedicated, caring and involved administrative team,
staff, parents and community, a commitment is made to provide
an enriching and rigorous educational experience for every
student!
When visitors enter the Coronado
campus, they soon realize they have come to a special place.
They are attracted to the beautiful landscape with grass,
trees, and sitting benches for our students. Upon entering
the building, visitors enter a commons area that has a courtyard
with flowers and sitting areas for students and staff members.
Visitors walk in through a hallway art gallery that displays
a promenade of student’s art work and pictures of
students involved in extra-curricular activities.
At Coronado Middle School,
students are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities…from
Student Government, the Debate Team to Robotics Club or
Athletic teams. Students are offered classes in Physical
Education, Art, Spanish, Vocal and Instrumental Music. In
addition to these, classes are also offered in cooking healthy
meals/teen living; and writing and thinking cross the curriculum.
In the hall, observers will
see classrooms of heterogeneous groups of students actively
participating in learning. Proceeding further, visitors
are made aware of our commitment to our students’
education. Visitors comment on the sense of purpose our
students display as active, involved learners. Quality student
work is displayed in every classroom as a source of great
pride and accomplishment. The visitors have observed what
can be described simply as a rich academic environment and
a great place to learn for all students.
Coronado Junior High School
was first constructed in 1960, by the Washington School
District. It was first occupied in March, 1961and in 1967
the school became a part of the Kansas City Kansas School
District. In 1982 Ninth grade students were assigned to
Washington High School and Coronado became a middle school.
Currently, Coronado Middle School is one of eight middle
schools in the Kansas City Kansas School District serving
grades 6-8.
The goal of Coronado Middle
School is to be on the cutting edge of quality educational
innovation in order to produce high achievement and the
best program for its students. Our curriculum is developed
with the philosophy that all students can learn and deserve
equal access to a quality education.
